Yesterday, it was endings and beginnings.
Tomorrow, let’s say it’s joy and sorrow, or
kindness and unkindness. Here’s an iron rule:
on any given day, if you intend to lift only
beginnings, or kindness, or joy, you’ll fail,
regardless of the strength of your spotter, or
the fierceness of your grunts. But don’t sweat it.
Just keep on lifting, and remember that all
of those contraries stacked on opposite ends
of your double grip always go up and come
down together, and weigh exactly the same.
